With Good Friday falling on the calendar this week, high school athletics were pushed up a day. That meant all three MISD baseball programs would compete in district play on Thursday night. Both McKinney High and North were looking for big home wins over district foes, while Boyd looked for its first 10-5A win of the season at Allen. Below are scores and recaps from the games:
The Lions (2-4) shut out Plano West 6-0 at home in District 10-5A play on Thursday night, giving McKinney a one-game lead over Plano East for the fourth playoff spot in the standings. Brett Gannaway was the winning pitcher for McKinney.
Brad Vassar homered in the ballgame for the Lions while Jesse Cox added a double, part of the Lions seven hits versus the Wolves pitching staff. Plano West committed four errors in the field and only mustered up two hits.
McKinney will visit Allen (5-1) next Friday night, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The Bulldogs (6-1) defeated Denison 2-1 in eight innings on Thursday night, bouncing back from the 3-2 loss at Wylie East on Tuesday night. Anthony Herrera was the winning pitcher of record for North.
No hitting stats were reported to TSB.
North will square off with Sherman at home next Friday night, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The Broncos (0-6) lost 11-1 at Allen on Thursday night in District 10-5A, with the game halted in the bottom of the sixth due to the run-rule. Boyd fell for the sixth straight time in district play. Carson Chilton was the losing pitcher on the mound for Boyd.
Boyd managed just three hits in the game off of Allen starter Pierce Edwards, while the Eagles jumped on the board early in the bottom of the first inning with five runs to cruise to the win.
Boyd will host Plano East (1-5) next Friday night, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
