The final weeks of the district season are here for the three MISD baseball programs. With the McKinney North Bulldogs chasing a District 13-4A championship, and the McKinney High Lions sitting comfortably in the fourth playoff spot in District 10-5A, the only question mark was with the McKinney Boyd Broncos. Needing to win out and get some help from the Lions in order to make the playoffs, Boyd lost to Plano 4-3 on a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh to see its playoff hopes dissapear.
Below are scores and recaps from Tuesday nights action, along with updated standings in both 10-5A and 13-4A:
The Lions (7-5) defeated Plano East 8-2 at home on Tuesday night in District 10-5A play. With the win and the McKinney Boyd Broncos loss, MHS clinched the fourth and final playoff spot in 10-5A.
Brett Gannaway was the winning pitcher on the mound for the Lions. Dalton Harris slugged two doubles in the game at the plate, knocking in two RBIs as well. Garrett Christianson, Joe Baker, Brad Vassar, and Jesse Cox also had one RBI each in the win.
McKinney will visit Plano West (8-4) on Friday night, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Lions trail Allen, Plano, and Plano West by one-game for first place in 10-5A with three games remaining.
The Broncos (3-9) fell to Plano 4-3 on the road Tuesday night, officially eliminating them from playoff contention in District 10-5A.
Carson Chilton was the losing pitcher for the Broncos, while Brad Hoeler earned the win for Plano in relief. After going up 3-0 on an RBI single by Paxton Larson and a 2-RBI triple by Fran DeJesus in the fifth inning, Plano responded with a three-run homer in the sixth inning to tie the game at 3-3.
In the bottom of the seventh, Mitchell Hansen hit a shot over the right-center field fence for a walk-off solo home run, clinching the postseason berth for the Wildcats while eliminating the Broncos.
