McKinney Boyd took a huge step in the path towards its first district baseball title in program history by defeating Sachse on the road 3-2 on Tuesday evening. Cameron Sweeney was the winning pitcher for the Broncos, and with the help of some timely hitting and strong defensive play, Boyd improved its record to 10-2 in District 10-5A play and are a full game ahead of Sachse for first place. However, Rowlett defeated North Garland on Tuesday night to improve to 10-2 as well, meaning that Friday night’s matchup between Rowlett and the Broncos could be for the district championship. Rowlett won the first matchup at home 2-1. Game time on Friday is set for 7 p.m.
McKinney North was defeated 4-2 at home by Highland Park in what was a very critical game for the Bulldogs to have under their belt. Will Cooper was the losing pitcher on the hill for North, while Preston Speers doubled in the ball game as well. The loss drops North down to 6-6 in District 10-4A, but with the Wylie East loss to Rockwall on Tuesday, the Bulldogs are still tied for fourth place in the district with Wylie East with two more games to go. North travels to 8-4 Rockwall on Friday night. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
McKinney High defeated Richardson Pearce 3-2 to in a battle of the bottom two teams in District 10-4A. The Lions improved to 3-9 in district play and could help out their crosstown rivals on Friday night when they host Wylie East. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
