MESQUITE — The McKinney North Bulldogs played their style of baseball on Thursday night.
With tremendous starting pitching, timely hitting, and solid defense, the Bulldogs defeated Mt. Pleasant 6-2 in game one of the best-of-three Bi-district round series at Copeland Field in Mesquite.
North, ranked No. 8 in Class 4A, improved to 25-1 on the season and can advance to the Area round with a win in game two on Friday night, back at Copeland Field.
The Bulldogs scored four runs in the first inning, a big part due to Preston Speers’ bases loaded triple. Travis Scalf would plate Speers in the inning to cap off the four-run outburst.
North would add two more runs in the second inning, including an RBI from JT Stevenson. The Tigers certainly weren’t sharp in the field defensively, committing three of their four errors in the first two innings.
Sophomore Gabe Constantine earned the win on the mound for the Bulldogs, going five and 1/3 innings and striking out eight hitters. Senior Anthony Herrera picked up the save in relief, recording the final five outs of the game to secure the Bulldogs’ win.
North and Mt. Pleasant will meet for game two on Friday night at Copeland Field, beginning at 7 p.m. Follow TSB on Facebook for live game updates from Mesquite, as well as other MISD playoff baseball and softball action.
