Attendance Zone Approved for Scott Elementary School in McKinney

Scott Elementary ZoneFrisco ISD’s Scott Elementary School, scheduled to open for the 2014-15 school year at 10550 Millbend Drive in McKinney, has had its attendance zone approved by FISD’s board of trustees. See the zones recently approved by FISD, including Scott Elementary, in the graphic above.

Below is the letter describing the action:

At the regular meeting of the FISD Board of Trustees on Monday, January 13, members approved the attendance zone for Scott Elementary School, located at 10550 Millbend Drive in McKinney, which is scheduled to open in the 2014-2015 school year with a projected enrollment of 633 students. This school will relieve Ashley, (with adjustments to Sonntag) Mooneyham, and Sonntag elementary schools.

FISD annually receives the updated fall enrollment projections and those numbers are used to draw the draft zones for schools planned to open in the following school year. After review at the initial Board meeting, those proposals are communicated and input is taken from parents. An opportunity for citizen input is extended at the December regular board meeting as the Board moves toward making a final decision on the new boundaries at the January board meeting.

As staff develops the proposed plans, they take into consideration issues of student stability, effective utilization of space, proximity to the school, diversity of the student body and unity in the community. Although all are considered important, with the continued and rapid growth and the overcrowding in existing schools, space utilization is a priority. When making boundary decisions, district officials do look at what zones will hold for the longest period of time.

The opening and zoning of Scott Elementary balances enrollments at all four elementary schools and, with the exception of Ashley Elementary, should hold for the foreseeable future. Ashley’s enrollment will be monitored closely; an additional school site is available in the area near Ashley Elementary and plans will be made to open that school as needed.

These elementary zone changes do not impact the current middle school or high school zones, however, please see the website www.friscoisd.org for information on the new zone for Independence High School, which will open in 2014.

The changes for the 2014-15 school year are as follows:

From Ashley to Sonntag – Frisco Heights, Stonelake Estates West

From Mooneyham to Scott – Reserve at Westridge, Winston Place (no students yet)

From Sonntag to Scott – Fairways North at Westridge, Fairways West at Westridge, Greens of Westridge, The Summit at Westridge, Villas of Westridge, Westridge on the Fairways, northern portion of Winsor Meadows at Westridge

The principal for Scott Elementary will be named by April. He or she will begin a website and start communicating timelines and events with families after that time as they work to build their team and new and exciting traditions at Scott!
