Arts Commission Grant Applications Available

Submitted by City of McKinney

On May 17, 2012, the City of McKinney Arts Commission will make available grant applications to organizations with a primary arts-related mission. All applications are due July 11, 2012.

For groups interested in applying for a grant, the timeline, guidelines and application are ready for review and completion by eligible organizations online at, www.mckinneytexas.org/macgrants.

Groups applying for a grant are required to attend one of two grant-writing workshops, held to provide information and assistance for those wishing to apply for the 2012-13 Arts Grants. The McKinney Arts Commission will present the workshops on Wednesday, May 16 from 9 to 10 a.m. and 6 to 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at McKinney City Hall, 222 N. Tennessee St.

Last year, the commission received applications from arts groups seeking more than $243,000 in grants during the current funding cycle and funded 16 area groups.

“Every year, the grant selection review period is one of the most exciting times for the Arts Commission. The diverse mix of organizations looking to bring or expand the arts in McKinney never disappoints. These grantees are true assets to the Community and continue to push McKinney toward becoming a true Arts destination city,” said Linda Spina, McKinney Arts Commission Chair. “Our mission is to provide diversity in the arts offered, which continues to be reflected in the variety of groups funded. I believe McKinney’s position as a cultural center in North Texas is growing because of the opportunities the Arts Commission provides.”

The Arts Commission serves as the advisory board to the City Council and city management in matters involving the close cooperation between the City and private citizens, institutions and agencies interested in or conducting activities relating to the arts. The commission makes recommendations to the City Council in regard to expenditures of City funds for the purpose of promoting or sustaining the arts in McKinney. The group reviews the funding proposals for arts programs held within the city, and the funding comes from allocations made by City Council. The commission’s mission is to “create a vibrant and viable arts community in which diverse, high-quality arts opportunities are available to McKinney residents and visitors.”
