It’s been quite a week for two of MISD’s top basketball programs, which were reocgnized Thursday by the Dallas Morning News.
The McKinney North girls team, which owns a 19-3 record, was ranked No. 2 in the newspaper’s DFW Area Class 4A Basketball Rankings, behind only Dallas Lincoln (21-4) and ahead of Highland Park (15-5), West Mesquite (17-6) and Arlington Seguin (15-7). Nos. 6-10 are Frisco Liberty (21-5), Red Oak (17-6), Frisco Centennial (21-6), Mansfield Summit (13-10) and Irving MacArthur (20-6). The Lady Bulldogs celebrated senior Alexis Mason’ school-record 33 points against Plano on Dec. 28 in the Sherman Holiday Classic.
The McKinney Boyd boys team, which is 16-2, was ranked No. 6 inas the Class 5A Basketball Rankings, having moved up four spots since it beat McKinney High 71-66 on Dec. 29 to win the OrthoTexas Invitational. Boyd trails the top five teams in the poll — DeSoto (19-1), South Grand Prairie (20-2), Mansfield Timberview (18-1), Hebron (20-2) and Plano East (15-4) and leads Richardson Berkner (16-5), Arlington Martin (15-4), Rowlett (15-2) and Garland Lakeview (15-5).
