Those of you in McKinney have already seen — hopefully — about the planned closure to Wilmeth Road at US 75 beginning Monday.
Those of you near Melissa, take heed. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will close northbound and southbound SH 5 to through traffic at the East Fork of the Trinity River just south of Melissa on Monday, Feb. 6, 2012 through the spring. The closure is necessary to ensure the safety of the traveling public as well as accelerate the completion of the construction on the replacement bridge.
Message boards and detour signs have been placed ahead of the closure to notify and guide drivers approaching the project. Motorists traveling north on SH 5 will be diverted to the westbound FM 543, then north on U.S. 75 to SH 121 north and back to SH 5. Motorists traveling south on SH 5 will be diverted to southbound SH 121, then south on U.S. 75 to FM 543 east and back to SH 5.
McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. is the contractor on the $6.2 million project to replace the bridge and widen the highway.
TxDOT would like to thank area drivers for their continued patience and cooperation as crews work diligently to complete this vital project as soon, and as safely, as possible.
