McKinney Main Street celebrates the beginning of the holiday season over Thanksgiving weekend with Home for the Holidays…a McKinney Christmas. The free event begins Friday, Nov. 29 and runs through Saturday, Nov. 30. Historic downtown will transform into a winter wonderland of shopping, entertainment, activities and food.
The event is free and open to the public. Popular attractions and activities include visits with Santa, carriage rides, a snow tubing hill, a winter wonderland horse carousel, live performances of A Christmas Carol in McKinney Performing Arts Center (MPAC), a petting zoo and seasonal activities like ornament painting. City officials light the city tree during a ceremony on Friday, Nov. 29 at 6:15 p.m. in Mitchell Park. It’s all set in the downtown area that features more than 100 shops and restaurants.
“Home for the Holidays…a McKinney Christmas in Historic Downtown is a new twist on the annual favorite event that has been around for more than 30 years. We pack live entertainment, activities for all ages, lots of food and shopping, all in one place. The new name reflects what being home for the holidays is like in McKinney, Texas,” said Main Street and MPAC Director Ty Lake.

Events held in Historic Downtown McKinney are possible due to generous community supporters. The holiday festivities downtown continue throughout December. A screening of It’s a Wonderful Life will be shown on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 2:30 p.m. at MPAC. Performances of A Christmas Carol, visits with Santa, the Holiday Tour of Homes and the Christmas Parade of Lights are also featured events downtown during December.
