The American Cancer Society is seeking teams for the Relay For Life of McKinney. Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s national signature, over-night fund-raising activity. Teams of 15 people or more will gather with tents and sleeping bags on April 26, 2013 at the Ballfields at Craig Ranch, 6151 Alma Road in McKinney to participate in the highest grossing fund-raisers for the American Cancer Society in Texas.
Relay For Life of McKinney unites friends, families, businesses, hospitals, schools, and churches, people from all walks of life, to walk, have fun, and raise money for the American Cancer Society. Teams seek sponsorship prior to the Relay, all with the goal of supporting a cure for cancer.
The 2013 fund-raising goal is $500,000, which the ACS will use to fuel research to fight all types of cancers. The event will include night long events as people will walk the track at the ballfields. The first lap of walkers, the Survivor Lap, will celebrate cancer survivors decked in purple who will have their names read aloud while approximately 4,000 attendees cheer them on.
Teams are encouraged to sign up early for the 12th annual 2013 American Cancer Society Relay For Life of McKinney. “By organizing early, teams have more time to raise money for the American Cancer Society,” said Sherry Jeffcoat, 2013 American Cancer Society Relay For Life of McKinney co-chair.

November 15 is the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smoke Out day that focuses on getting people to quit smoking and to not begin due to its connection to lung cancer.
November also marks the American Cancer Society’s National caregiver’s month that focuses attention on the important role that caregivers provide to cancer patients. A caregiver is anyone who has provided daily care for someone with cancer.
“As a caregiver you do so much for the people you love. You are a ‘get it done’ kind of person who truly understands the magnitude of a cancer diagnosis. All caregivers are important and our Relay For Life of McKinney would like to say THANK YOU for all you do,” Jeffcoat said.
