Aesop’s (Oh So Slightly) Updated Fables by Kim Esop Wylie is being presented by McKinney Repertory Theatre’s Young Actors Guild Friday through Sunday, August 9-11, at the McKinney Performing Arts Center.
Directed by MRT’s Nicole Holbert, Aesop’s (Oh So Slightly) Updated Fables weaves six of Aesop’s most famous fables into a show that’s fun, fast-paced, and full of surprises. The featured fables are: The Dog and the Bone, The Tortoise and the Hare, The Fox and the Grapes, The Miller, His Son, and the Donkey, The Lion and the Mouse, and The Country Maid. Like the original fables, these (oh so slightly) updated stories each have a lesson to teach. The 17 cast members are all members of the Young Actors Guild, as are the Assistant Director (Micah Ammons), the Stage Manager (Grace Bond) and the Sound Technician (Bear Bond).
McKinney Repertory Theatre formed the Young Actors Guild (YAG) in 2009, the first educational Theatrical Guild in the area dedicated solely to youth ages 8-18. From costume and set design to lighting, sound, and starring on stage, the youth do it all with guidance and oversight from theatre professionals and adult volunteers. In the 2012-13 season YAG will produce 4 shows with 15 performances.
The Young Actors Guild is a member of the McKinney Chamber of Commerce and the American Association of Community Theatre. Its productions are funded in part by the City of McKinney through the City of McKinney Arts Commission and the Texas Commission on the Arts.
